Travel Document (Laissez Passer)
The “laissez-passer” is a temporary travel document issued to Algerian nationals who are not registered at the Algerian Embassy. It allows the holder to return to Algeria in cases where their passport has been lost, stolen, or expired.
This document is also issued to newborns in the U.S. whose Algerian parents are either visiting temporarily (tourist visa) or do not have legal immigration status in the U.S.
The laissez-passer is valid for one month (30 days) only and can only be used for a one-way trip to Algeria via the shortest route.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
- Completed laissez-passer application form (duly filled and signed);
- Two (2) recent passport-sized photographs;
- Confirmed flight ticket;
- A self-addressed return envelope (only if requesting to receive the document by mail).
ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS
👉 For Adults:
- Proof of Algerian nationality, such as: Algerian passport (if available) or Algerian National ID or Military ID card (with a photo);
- If the passport is damaged: You must submit the damaged passport;
- If the passport is lost or stolen: You must submit a Lost or Stolen Passport Form.
👉 For Newborns & Minors:
- Proof of Algerian nationality of at least one parent (e.g., passport);
- Original full-version birth certificate of the child;
- Authorization letter from the Algerian father (if the father is not present at the Embassy):
- If applying by mail: The authorization letter must be notarized;
- If the father is in Algeria: The authorization must be legalized by an administrative officer (Commune) in Algeria.
IMPORTANT NOTES
❌ Civil status documents (birth or marriage certificates, family book, driver’s license, or any foreign documents) are not accepted as proof of nationality.
📅 The laissez-passer request must be submitted at least 72 hours before departure.
